saatchi visit

a collection of images from my visit to the saatchi in sloane square this christmas.

what is art if it is just merely random objects stapled to a canvas

David Salle - Bigger Rack

i don't really like collages, and every time an art teacher utters the words "let's make a collage" i die a little inside each time (and considering collages are suggested twice a year minimum, i am on the verge death when it comes to my collage soul). however with this piece above i seemed to actually enjoy the collection of images arranged like a collage but presented like a painting. why, we may never know. but at least i can say my collage soul is not fully dead (yet).

Bjarne Melgaard - Untitled (Fear of Les Super)

the colours of this painting by Bjarne Melgaard bring happiness to the painting, and consequently to the viewer. it's like a mixture of a 6 year olds drawing mixed with a 1 year olds paint attack.

just me, sas and a bird

my fave part of the gallery visit as it was the most graphic design related.

when i first saw these art works, i almost left the room immediately as from a far they just looked like dull paintings. but my friends continued in and we realised the the painting were made out of heaps and heaps of oil paint stacked on top of each other, giving the painting a true depth and texture. i still don't like the paintings as a whole, but i respect the work that went into making the detail, and the idea of making a piece 3D by layering the material used.

ah the classic oil room. never fails to disappoint. so much symmetry reflection and geometric shapes blah blah blah. this time we contemplated what would happen if we spat in it... we are yet to find out.
